Day 41- A Giveaway!

Food Rules: An Eater's Manual
Welcome to Day 41 of my 90-Day journey towards eating more healthy foods.  I've been a little off track lately, so I think I need to go back and review Michael Pollan's Food Rules: An Eater's Manual.  This little book contains 64 "food rules" that are little tips towards eating more healthy.

To help you today, I am giving away one copy of Michael Pollan's book Food Rules.  All you have to do to be entered to win is leave a comment with something you liked or learned on one of the other days of my blog.  Please leave a comment below with your email.  I will need to contact you if you win.  To get a bonus entry, share this post on Facebook, or Twitter, or on your own blog.  Please leave another comment below if you link to this blog.  The winner will be chosen randomly from all the comments on Friday October 15 @ 8:00am.  Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.

Good Luck!

(the contest is now closed- thanks)

  1. I love this book! :) A friend of mine gave it to me. But I could have another copy, and if I win, I'll give it away to my sister :).
    Thanks! :)
I'll definitely try your Oatmeal Apple Crisp recipe. As a busy mom to two energetic kids, I need tasty but easy recipes :). This sounds amazing!

  3. I had never heard or read that there were more additives in lower fat milk, nor that there was a link to cancer. I really enjoy the creaminess of the Ultra pasteurized milk, but at the price premium, when I do buy it - it is drinking milk. I don't waste it on cereal or baking and cooking.

I also learned that you must be reasonably local to me, as you referenced Hartzler Dairy in Wooster. Your experience with the fresh milk there reminds me of an experience in college where a friend got a glass of whole milk at a dairy. We were all repulsed by it when we tried it, yet when my kids were infants and we drank whole milk, it never bothered me.

Thanks for stopping by and entering my coupon giveaway.

  4. I was also surprised to learn that low fat milk was actually worse for you than whole. Yet another 'trick' to the consumer to think you're doing something to be healthier, when in fact you are adding unnecesary additives to what you're eating and drinking!

  5. I love your idea to have healthy snacks ready. I find that if I don't I am more likely to grad cookies or junk instead of taking the time to prepare something healthy.

    Have a great week!

  13. I liked the post about the different kinds of milk. I didn't realize that organic milk is ultra pasturized. I've always wondered if it was worth the price to buy organic milk.

  17. I checked out Day 37- Got Milk? I didn't realize that milk in a carton is ultra-pastuerized. We've recently switched over to the Almond Milk. We have also started looking for organic products. Our five chickens supply our eggs. They're free range, so I know their eggs are good.

  18. I didn't know that Aspartame gets broken down into methanol! Yack!!! Looks like it's going to be stevia flavored sodas for me (if any at all)!

  23. Hi Jan, You are now doing my favorite job in the world, my response to "What do you want to be when you grow up? Congratulations on the promotion! I love real butter and have learned that nearly everything is better for you in it's most natural state. Having prepared vegetables, pickles, HB eggs, fruit, jello salads, cheese chunks and poached poultry on hand at all times satisfies my refrigerator safari needs. I had the gastric bypass surgery 7 years ago and this style of eating has helped me maintain my lower weight. I feel like all I do now is munch and STILL lose or maintain!!!
Stick to your guns and you will feel much better about yourself when you are done.

  28. Friday Oct 8th is my fave. I liked the article from the Cleveland Clinic about butter vs margerine. And I have to say I'd rather eat something colored by beta carotine than the stuff in margerine.
    Thanks so much!
